POKOTABI / Gyoshin
ぎょしん 都立大学店
Near Toritsu-daigaku Station, Gyoshin serves sushi made to order by a chef at the counter. Choose your favourites aloud, or explore assorted plates, clam soup and rice bowls at lunchtime.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Just beside Toritsu-daigaku Station, Gyoshin offers the ease of a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, with a chef making each piece across the counter. Rather than leaving plates to circulate on a belt, diners order the sushi they fancy aloud, then enjoy it freshly made and at their own pace. The rice is an easy-to-eat size, and the menu makes it simple to order favourites such as tuna and salmon, as well as silver-skinned fish, one after another.
There is plenty to enjoy beyond choosing individual plates. Assorted selections include the “Three Kinds of Bluefin Tuna”, for comparing lean tuna with medium-fatty tuna; “Three Kinds of Shrimp”, featuring steamed, red and sweet shrimp; and “Three Kinds of Sticky Toppings”, combining minced tuna with natto and grated yam. A warm bowl of freshwater clam soup makes a comforting start, while small dishes can be paired with draft beer or a sake-tasting selection for a meal that leans towards drinking snacks.
For a more filling meal, the “Seasonal Nigiri Assortment” comes with miso soup, and sets with draft beer are also available. At lunchtime, the rice-bowl menu includes tekka-don (a tuna bowl) and half-size bowls with a choice of 2 toppings. It is a handy option for a quick sushi lunch close to the station.
